ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

For us, developing an environmental project is much more than a complementary initiative; it is an essential part of our identity as a responsible travel agency and of our vision for the future. We firmly believe that traveling should be an experience that inspires, connects, and transforms, but never at the expense of the environment or the communities that welcome us.

Tourism exists thanks to nature and the cultural diversity of the world. Beaches, rainforests, mountains, deserts, and oceans are the heart of the destinations we love and promote. Therefore, taking environmental responsibility means protecting what makes every journey possible. Our environmental project was created from the need to preserve these environments, reduce the impact of our activities, and actively contribute to their conservation so they can be enjoyed by present and future generations.

In addition, we understand that tourism has a great capacity to create a positive impact. Through our environmental project, we promote conscious and sustainable tourism, where every decision, from selecting our suppliers to shaping the traveler’s experience, is designed to minimize environmental impact and maximize social benefits. We are committed to responsible practices such as reducing waste, using natural resources efficiently, and supporting local conservation initiatives.

Callanga Family Explorers organizes environmental cleanup and reforestation campaigns that actively contribute to protecting the environment. In response to the various forest fires that have occurred in Cusco, different tourism organizations and associations have been promoting environmental recovery projects aimed at protecting one of Peru’s greatest treasures and one of the Seven Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu.

One of these projects, called “One Million Trees for Machu Picchu,” encourages visitors to voluntarily contribute to tree planting through the travel packages they book. The funds collected are used to restore vegetation affected by forest fires that damaged different areas of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

Through these initiatives, we seek not only to protect our ecosystems but also to inspire our travelers to become part of a positive and sustainable change for future generations.

Reforestation

This initiative is being coordinated by the Association of Tourism Agencies of Cusco (AATC), which reported that the project is currently in its final stage, specifically validating the way this contribution would be applied to visitors. Likewise, it indicated that, in order to ensure sustainability, the project is expected to have a duration of five years. Currently, our planet is losing large forest areas year after year as a consequence of deforestation and forest destruction.

Environment

At Callanga Family Explorers, Cusco and its surrounding areas are more than just our destination—they are our home, the heart of our work, and an essential part of our lives. For this reason, we are deeply committed to protecting and preserving our natural environment. As part of this commitment, we organize quarterly environmental cleanup campaigns in nearby communities and natural areas.

Callanga Family Explorers and our entire team actively promote large-scale cleanup initiatives aimed at preserving the beauty of the regions that often lack adequate environmental maintenance. This ongoing project was inspired and led by the vision of our Founder and General Manager, who continually takes the initiative in organizing and supporting these environmental efforts.

In 2025, Callanga Family Explorers organized a major environmental cleanup and green area restoration campaign in the Ticatica sector, located at the entrance to the city of Cusco. During this initiative, our team collected a total of 880 kilograms (1,940 pounds) of waste. The increasing amount of litter found in these areas remains a growing concern, which is why we continue to carry out quarterly cleanup campaigns to help protect and preserve the natural beauty of our region for future generations.

We believe that responsible tourism goes beyond providing unforgettable travel experiences—it also means giving back to the communities and environments that make those experiences possible.

SUPPORTING EDUCATION IN ANDEAN COMMUNITIES

Callanga Family Explorers is committed to supporting children and schools in underprivileged high-Andean communities. As part of this commitment, we helped fulfill the dreams of more than 20 children from Mahuaypampa, a community located in the Andean mountains west of Cusco, by providing them with essential school supplies.

Many of these children face economic challenges that make it difficult for their families to obtain the materials needed for their education. Through this initiative, we aim to support their learning opportunities and encourage their continued attendance at school.

At Callanga Family Explorers, our goal is to reach as many rural communities as possible with educational assistance. However, limited resources require us to expand our support gradually, helping different communities little by little while continuing our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of local children and their families.

Why Do We Support Local Communities?

At Callanga Family Explorers, we believe that tourism should create benefits not only for travelers but also for the communities that contribute to the cultural and natural richness of our region.

Over the years, we have witnessed the challenges faced by many rural and Indigenous communities, including limited access to education, healthcare, proper nutrition, and other essential services. Although these communities are an important part of Peru’s heritage, many still face significant barriers to development and opportunity.

Our commitment to social projects comes from our strong connection to local communities and our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to receive an education and build a brighter future. For this reason, we support initiatives such as providing school supplies, assisting rural schools, and promoting community-based projects that help improve the quality of life for families in need.

We know that there is still much work to be done. That is why we remain committed to expanding these programs and reaching more communities that require support.

Every time a traveler books a tour with Callanga Family Explorers, they also contribute to these social initiatives, as a portion of our revenue is invested in community development projects.

Together, we can create more opportunities for local communities and help build a better future for the next generation.

CHRISTMAS PROJECT

At Callanga Family Explorers, we believe that every child deserves to experience the joy and magic of Christmas, regardless of where they live or the challenges they face.

In 2025, we brought our Christmas Project to 20 children from the community of Mahuaypampa, located in the Andean mountains west of Cusco. The children enjoyed a traditional Christmas celebration with hot chocolate, panettone, and gifts, sharing a day filled with happiness and unforgettable moments. For many of them, opportunities to celebrate Christmas are limited due to economic hardships and the geographic isolation of their community.

Seeing their smiles and sharing this experience with them was one of the most rewarding moments for our team. These experiences inspire us to continue bringing hope and happiness to children living in remote communities throughout the region.

Our dream for Christmas 2026 is to bring this project to the children of the native community of Callanga, a very special place that inspired the name of our company. Due to its remote location and the lack of road access, reaching the community requires a two-day journey on foot.

The General Manager of Callanga Family Explorers spent her childhood in this community and understands firsthand the challenges faced by families living in isolated areas. Like many children in Callanga, she grew up without receiving Christmas gifts. For this reason, one of her greatest dreams is to give the children of her community the opportunity to experience the excitement and joy of a Christmas filled with hope, smiles, and unforgettable memories.

With the support of our travelers, friends, and partners, we hope to make this dream a reality and bring happiness to the children of Callanga and other communities in need.

Every tour booked with Callanga Family Explorers helps support projects like this and contributes to creating better opportunities for children and families living in rural communities throughout the Cusco region.
