WILD AMAZON EXPEDITION 5-DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1: TRANSFER TO THE LODGE | NIGHT WALK
Itinerary
Departure from Puerto Maldonado is between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We will pick you up from the airport, bus station, or your hotel. After a refreshing tropical welcome drink and a brief explanation of the program, we will begin the approximately two-hour journey to the lodge.
The first part of the journey is by land vehicle, covering 47 km of paved road followed by 17 km of an unpaved route. Along the way, we will pass through local farms and areas of primary rainforest. The road ends at a small port on the Tambopata River, where a motorboat will be waiting to take us approximately 20 minutes downstream to the lodge.
A box lunch will be provided during the journey. As we travel along the Tambopata River, we will have the opportunity to observe different species of birds and, with some luck, families of capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, caimans, and other wildlife.
Upon reaching the lodge, you will be welcomed and shown to your accommodation. Later, we will take an introductory night walk to learn more about the rainforest ecosystem and experience its nocturnal activity. During the walk, we may see and hear insects, bats, frogs, and possibly some nocturnal mammals.
After the walk, we will return to the lodge for dinner. The diverse sounds of the jungle will accompany our first night in the Amazon. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 2: CAMPSITE | KAYAKING | PRIVATE CONCESSION
Itinerary
Wake up surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest, with the calls of oropendolas and other tropical birds. Early risers can enjoy the sunrise along the river, explore the trails around the lodge, or visit the viewpoint while having freshly brewed coffee or a local infusion.
After breakfast, we will cross the Tambopata River by boat and begin a hike through the trails of a private conservation area. Along the way, we may encounter different species of wildlife, including monkeys and huanganas. The morning also includes an opportunity to try piranha fishing and visit local plantations before returning to the lodge around 11:00 a.m. Those interested can spend some time kayaking on the river or trying their luck fishing for some of the many fish species found in its waters.
After lunch, we will continue by boat toward the Tambopata National Reserve, where our campsite is located. The journey takes us through remote and well-preserved areas of the rainforest, with excellent opportunities to observe wildlife such as capybaras, turtles, caimans, and, with good fortune, even larger mammals such as jaguars.
We will arrive at the campsite in the afternoon and set up camp on one of the river beaches. Later, we will take a short walk along the beach to look for animal tracks and signs of wildlife. After dinner, we will gather around a campfire beneath the night sky and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest before spending the night at the campsite.

DAY 3: MACAW CLAY LICK | ADVENTURE | CAIMAN SEARCH
Itinerary
We will start the day early with the sounds of the rainforest coming to life. After a light coffee or infusion, we will board the boat for approximately 25 minutes upstream toward the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, located within the Tambopata National Reserve.
Weather permitting, we will have the opportunity to witness one of the Amazon’s most spectacular wildlife displays, as hundreds of parrots and macaws gather at the clay lick to feed. While waiting for the birds, we will enjoy breakfast and take in the vibrant colors and sounds of the surrounding rainforest.
Later in the morning, we will travel downstream to the campsite to collect our backpacks and camping equipment before continuing by boat back to the lodge. Once there, you will have some time to relax, swim near the lodge’s dock, or take part in optional adventure activities such as zip-lining, the triline, and floating ropes.
After lunch, we will explore the rainforest on an ethnobotanical walk. Along the trail, we will learn about medicinal plants and discover fascinating Amazonian vegetation, including walking palms, giant lupuna trees, and other remarkable species.
As night falls, we will head out by boat along the Tambopata River in search of caimans. With the help of our guide, we will explore the riverbanks and observe these fascinating reptiles in their natural environment.
We will then return to the lodge for dinner and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon rainforest. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 4: RETURN TO PUERTO MALDONADO | SANDOVAL LAKE
Itinerary
After breakfast, we will begin our journey back to Puerto Maldonado, combining land and river transportation. We will arrive at the hotel in Puerto Maldonado, where lunch will be served.
In the afternoon, we will travel by boat for approximately 30 minutes along the Madre de Dios River until reaching the trailhead leading to Sandoval Lake. From there, we will hike approximately 3 km through the rainforest, within the Tambopata National Reserve.
Upon reaching the lake, we will board a wooden canoe and explore its waters with our guide, looking for giant river otters and different bird species, such as hoatzins and anhingas.
Later, we will make our way back through the forest, taking the opportunity to look for some of the nocturnal creatures of the rainforest along the trail. Finally, we will arrive back at the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 5: PUERTO MALDONADO | DEPARTURE TRANSFER
Itinerary
After an unforgettable experience in the Tambopata rainforest, you will enjoy breakfast included at the hotel. We will then arrange your departure transfer according to your means of transportation. If you have a departure flight, we will pick you up from the hotel approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes before your flight and take you to the airport. If you are departing by bus, we will pick you up approximately 2 hours before your scheduled departure and transfer you to the bus station.
With this transfer, our services come to an end.

HOTEL PICKUP AND RETURN TRANSFER
Our Tambopata experience begins with pickup from your hotel, bus terminal, or airport in Puerto Maldonado, depending on your arrival arrangements. To organize your transfer properly, please provide us with your arrival details in advance, including whether you will be arriving by plane or bus, or if you will already be staying at a hotel in Puerto Maldonado.
At the end of the experience, we will arrange your transfer to the airport or bus terminal, according to your departure plans. Please also provide us with your departure details in advance, so we can coordinate your return transfer to the appropriate location and ensure a comfortable and well-organized experience from beginning to end.

To confirm your reservation, we offer two secure payment methods. A 40% deposit of the total tour cost is required to secure your booking.

If you prefer, we can also send you a secure PayPal payment request by email, allowing you to complete your payment safely and conveniently. Your reservation will be confirmed once the required deposit has been received.
Before confirming your reservation, we require the following information for each participant in your booking:

WHAT ABOUT THE REMAINING BALANCE?
The remaining balance for your Tambopata trip should be paid approximately 15 days before the tour begins. You can make the payment online by credit or debit card, PayPal, or Western Union. This allows us to process your remaining balance before your arrival in Puerto Maldonado while continuing with the services previously arranged for your trip.
ARE TIPS MANDATORY?
No. At Callanga Family Explorers, we believe in rewarding our staff through fair wages and responsible working conditions. Our staff are paid fairly for their professionalism, dedication, and hard work.
If you feel that our team has exceeded your expectations and would like to show your appreciation, tips are always welcome but are never expected or mandatory. Any gratuity is entirely at your discretion and is greatly appreciated as a gesture of thanks for exceptional service.
WHAT ABOUT ALTITUDE SICKNESS?
The Tambopata experience takes place at a much lower elevation than Cusco. Puerto Maldonado is located approximately 183 m (600 ft) above sea level, so altitude sickness is generally not a concern during this trip. If you arrive in Puerto Maldonado directly from Cusco or another high-altitude area, you will simply experience a significant change in elevation and climate as you descend into the Amazon rainforest.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN TAMBOPATA?
Tambopata has a warm, tropical, and humid climate throughout most of the year. Temperatures are usually around 28°C (82°F) during the day and can drop to approximately 20°C (68°F) at night. The rainy season generally runs from November to March, although rainfall can occur at any time of the year. There may also be periods of strong sunshine, so we recommend bringing lightweight, comfortable clothing, sun protection, insect repellent, and a rain jacket or poncho.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
Bring only the essentials for the jungle experience. Weather conditions in Tambopata can change quickly, so we recommend being prepared for both rain and strong sunshine. Please keep your electronic devices protected from moisture and bring comfortable clothing suitable for warm and humid conditions.
