PARROT CLAY LICK HALF-DAY TOUR ITINERARY
Our vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Maldonado (183 m / 600 ft) and take you to the river port, where we will board a motorized boat for an approximately 30-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River. We will then arrive at the Parrot Clay Lick, where you will have the opportunity to see hundreds of parrots gathering to eat the clay from the riverbank. This clay is rich in mineral salts, such as sodium and potassium, which are important for their digestion. The species that visit the clay lick include Blue-headed Parrots, Dusky-headed Parakeets, Blue-and-yellow Macaws, and Scarlet Macaws, among others.
On the way back, we will look for sloths, which are often found resting in the trees. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and ends with a drop-off at your hotel.
